Environmental Activities

Fujisaki is promoting activities to restore the landscape lost in Great East Japan Earthquake and protect the landscape of the beautiful forest city Sendai. In June 2021, we will issue an environmental declaration to introduce activities to protect the environment and environmentally friendly products and services.

Tree-planting and tree-raising activities

We are engaged in tree-planting activities and tree-planting activities to regenerate greens in coastal areas affected by severe damage in Great East Japan Earthquake. Not only employees from Fujisaki, but also OBs and OGs participate, planting trees such as Japanese black pine to grow into disaster prevention forests that protect the area.

Sales of original eco bags

Changed to plastic bag containing biomass plastic from July 2020. In addition, we are working to promote environmentally friendly packaging materials, such as changing food bags to FSC certified materials.
In addition, we sell original eco-bags made from recycled PET bottles, and donate a portion of the proceeds to forest conservation activities.

Implementation of Clean Campaigns

Fujisaki is collecting garbage in nearby shopping streets as part of its community contribution activities.
We have been invited by a union from a labor union in Sendai Mitsukoshi, which has been dedicated to clean-up activities, and started as a joint cleaning activity in June 2020 as the Environment Enhancement Month. The cleaning area alternately goes back and forth every month around Sendai Mitsukoshi and Fujisaki. Employees of both companies can also connect with each other, and we have fun activities every time.
In the future, we will continue to take the initiative in creating a beautiful city at any time, aiming for environmental activities throughout the Ichibancho shopping street.

Since its founding in 1819, Fujisaki has been passionate about creating a department store that is loved and trusted with its primary mission to contribute to the development of the region. Throughout the year, we are working to contribute to various communities and society so that our beloved Sendai becomes a better city.

We actively participate in Sendai's festival, such as the first sale of Sendai, the Aoba Festival, and the Ichibancho Sansha Festival, and contribute to the revitalization of Sendai and Miyagi. Among them, the Sendai Seven Evening Festival, which has been around since the Edo period, is famous nationwide.

Since 2011, when the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, we have collaborated with the Sendai City Board of Education to display Tanabata decorations that combine approximately 80,000 pieces of paper cranes folded by elementary and junior high school children and students in Sendai City. Each year, the circle of participation expands, and the decoration with gratitude for the hope for the reconstruction of Tohoku and the warm support from all over Japan and the world attracted the sympathy of the viewers, and many visitors stopped and photographed.

Yagiyama Zoo Park naming rights for Fujisaki no Mori

In April 2020, we concluded a naming rights agreement with Sendai City and Yagiyama Zoological Park as a community contribution project to the capital of forest, and nicknamed "Yagiyama Zoo Park Fujisaki no Mori".
By connecting with the historic Yagiyama Zoological Park, we will provide Sendai, Miyagi, and Tohoku with the excitement and enjoyment of interacting with many animals, and new discoveries, and support the healthy growth of children. Specific initiatives include posting nickname signs, holding animal photo exhibitions at the Fujisaki Main Building, and selling original products.

Fujisaki CUP Sendai City Spring School Children's Rubber Baseball Tournament

In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Fujisaki's founding in 2019, this tournament hopes that the children who will lead the future will learn a lot through sports, build a bright future, and grow robustly. We named "Fujisaki CUP" to continue supporting the bonds and bonds.
The "Sendai City Spring School Children's Rubber Baseball Tournament" is attended by about 2,000 schoolchildren registered by the Sendai City Baseball Federation, and by winning, you can participate in the prefectural tournament and the national tournament Prince Takamado Gift Cup as a representative of Sendai City. Fujisaki creates a tournament brochure with photos of the participating players and presents a champion T-shirt as the Fujisaki Prize to the winners.

Re-employment of employees who have retired for childcare and nursing care, as well as systems such as "stock paid leave" that can be used for childcare, nursing care, and fertility treatment, as well as the "HAPPY WOMAN" program below, received the Excellence Award.

HAPPY WOMAN Program

In fiscal 2023, under the theme of "creating friends who work hard together and supporting female employees who aim to improve their careers," 23 women participated in the series six times, including how to utilize their strengths and how to improve their presence and influence. On October 2, the completion ceremony was held while the boss watched, and the participants made a group presentation and each of them declared their "My Vision".

In fiscal 2024, we discussed and discussed what we need to do now to connect batons to the next generation. A company that is easy to work regardless of gender…Based on the idea that employees working in Fujisaki will become HAPPY, we conducted a proposal to the company on creating a working environment in the form of a briefing session. After the debriefing session, officers and supervisors provided feedback on whether or not they should be implemented and advice on implementation, further improving accuracy, and in 2025 we were able to implement some business improvements.

Acceptance of Diverse Work Styles

Until now, only those who have been with the company for more than one year were allowed to work shorter hours for childcare, and in the case of reemployment, they were only employed full-time work. However, in order to promote return to work in a flexible way of working, the system was changed from September 2023 to allow employees to reemployment during shorter working hours for childcare.
